So all my cameras are connected via cable directly to my NVR and that is how I access them. Recently I upgraded the software on the NVR and I see a new field that I never saw before. For each camera there appears to be a password setting. It's located at ...settings-camera-general-set passwordIt has a little question mark thing you can hover over with an explanation and it says "For telecomunications security, the camera is secured with the password provided by the NVR. To access the camera via Reolink App/Client, please create your own password."So my question is ... for security reasons, do we have to set a password for each camera? I mean my cameras are connected to the NVR so my assumption is that they cannot be reached individually via the inter net or even my local LAN. You would have to connect to the NVR to access them so the NVR password would be needed. Am I correct?
@joseph_1979 I had no idea this splitter thing even existed. I got one and it worked great. Exactly what I needed and worked like a charm. Saved me from having to make another long run of cable out to that farthest camera. I'm buying another one for the other side. Thank you so much.
OK, after reading your linked post I "think" I might be beginning to almost understand this.So for the purposes of oversimplification and understanding I'm just going to talk about my particular setup which is an NVR and 1 wifi only tablet and 1 cellular capable phone, both are android. Also none of my devices have google accounts on them at all.1. The NVR has a UID which is like a specific serial/user number. It registers this UID and the IP address of where it is located out on the internet with reolink/AWS so that there's an entry in a list.2. When you log in to the NVR with an android app the NVR keeps a list of these logged in apps and their UIDs so that it can send a push to them when needed.3. When you install the android app on your device and log in to the NVR that device gets its own UID.4. When an event happens the NVR sends out a "push" notification to AWS (amazon) via the internet along with the UID of the client it wants to send the push to. (I was blocking my NVR from going out to the internet in my router so that's why that was not working.)5. AWS looks up the UID in it's database and sends the push to the IP address it has on file for that client.I know this is way dumbed down but am I getting it kinda right? If so then what I don't understand is how my wifi only device is getting the push? My hardware firewall router should be blocking any incoming new traffic. Also I had UID disabled on my NVR but still the wifi tablet was getting the push. The cellular device did get the push but only when on wifi. If I shut off wifi then it got nothing cellular. After reading your article I turned UID on in the NVR and bam, cellular worked.
Wow, that is a great explanation and I appreciate it, but unfortunately that is a little above my ability to understand. So if you don't mind dumbing it down a little let's take my situation for example. I have an android device on my LAN and both the device and the NVR are on the same subnet behind a hardware firewall. The push notifications work and I see in my logs that it is sending a packet to Amazon AWS for every push notification and to the same address. What I don't understand is how is that notification coming back from AWS into my LAN and going to the device? Or is it sending both a packet to AWS and also sending a packet directly via the LAN to the device? Also, I don't know if it matters or not, but the android device does not have a Google account at all on it.
I have a RLN16-410 NVR and so far I have not been doing any push notifications or anything like that. I've just been using it view the cameras and record. But I wanted to play around with push notifications but I have no idea how they work.I have the android app loaded on an old tablet that has no phone number and no cellular service capability; it is wi-fi only. Can that work or does a push notification require a cellular phone that has a phone number active? I just don't understand how the push works.
That is amazing. Exactly what I was looking for. Very much appreciated. So then it looks like I can't use a regular switch. I need to get a POE switch. But that leaves 2 questions...
Awesome! Thank you. Works great for me and ... the best part is that the website finally updated! So we can download it directly from Reolink website, for those of us android users that side-load apps. Thank you very much Reolink! Very much appreciated.
I have an NVR system with 16 channels/ports on the back. I have one camera on the far side of my house served with a long cat 6 cable. I would like to add a second camera in the same location facing a different direction and I was about to run a second long cable out to it and then I realized that I have a power outlet right next to it and I have a spare ethernet switch so ... is it possible to plug 2 separate cameras into the switch and then plug that switch into 1 single port on the back of the NVR and have it recognize both cameras? So I guess the simpler question is ... is each "channel" of the NVR directly connected to each "port" of the back of the NVR, or can you plug multiple cameras into a single port with a switch as long as you don't go above the number of channels that the NVR can handle?
If I buy a RLC-810A today, will it come with the newest hardware version (hardware version: IPC_56064M8MP)?
This sounds great and I'd love to download it ... but I'm guessing it's too much to ask that you post a link here so we can download it direct? There are a few of us that don't do Google Play. Or, absent a direct link, can you please update the link on your .apk download page? I mean you already have a page where we can download the .apk file directly so wouldn't it make sense to have the latest version there than 3 versions behind?
@joseph_1979 As I said, like a lot of people, I don't have an account with Google and I don't use or have access to the Play Store. As such we download apps direct from the manufacturer which you guys do as you do have the .apk file available on your website for people like us whihc is greatly appreciated. What I'm asking for is that you update the file that's on the website. I understand your the forum moderator so you don't have access to stuff like that but I'm guessing you do have a means of communicating with people higher up the chain so can you please pass along that their web download is behind a version? It would be greatly appreciated.
I never post to thank a company for a product that works as it should, but nowadays I think that deserves a post. I bought my REO complete NVR system back in 2021 and I have to say that I was not expecting much. It was way less expansive than others but I figured I'd give it a shot. Well I tried it and I was very pleasantly surprised. The system was easy to set up and did everything that I wanted. Video quality was better than I expected and recordings have been great and just what I hoped for. Alerts to my phone work great. Now, 4 years later, and everything is still going great. All 8 cameras are still working and NVR has been recording for 4 years straight 24hrs a day with no problems! Looks like there are no more firmware updates but I guess that is to be expected after this amount of time. And I guess they are not needed anyway since everything is working perfectly. What's to fix?So just wanted to say thank you for a great system at a good price that does what it says it is going to do and lasts.
I'd love to have this update. Can you please post a direct link for those of us that don't use Google Play please? It would be greatly appreciated. Or just update your website link to the newest version. It is still showing the old version. Thank you.
@reocam_448003255267488 FYI for those, like me, that like to download the apk directly from Reolink website, version 4.46.04 is available now.
Any chance that we can finally get a link to the apk file or update the link to the apk on the main website? Still waiting for the website apk file link to get updated. It would be greatly appreciated.https://reolink.com/software-and-manual/
@joseph_1979 I appreciate that and I know there are thrird party websites that host unofficial releases but I only download apk files from the OEM. I prefer a link from you. You can just update the apk download page on your website here: https://home-cdn.reolink.us/wp-content/assets/app/android/That would be a great help. Thanks
Very much appreciated. Can't wait to try it. I hope it fixes the tablet size issue. The last update did not.Can you please provide a direct link to the apk file or update the link on the website? Thank you.
I finally got a chance to download the 4.43.0.5 android app and it works great on my phone BUT I also have it on a tablet and it functions that same however the display has changed. It used to be full screen and now it has a border on the left side thus rendering the screen as small as my cell phone. I will try to attach a screenshot to show it.This is not good because the entire reason that I use the tablet is so that the image is larger and I can see it without my glasses. Worked great until this last version update. Is there a way that I can get it back to full screen?
@joseph_1979 Thank you but, as I said, I don't use the play store. There are quite a few of us here that don't use the play store. We prefer to use apk directly from manufacturer. You have an apk available for download on your website, it's just old and out of date. You have always posted apk before. Has something changed? It would be greatly appreciated.
APK is not available on your website yet. Can you please post a link here or update the website apk for those of us that don't use google play? It would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
