    No pre-record on FTP files

I have my 510WA "pre-record" option set to On, but have noticed that this does not seem to apply to the files saved via FTP. In other words, if I get a motion alert and watch the video in the Reolink iOS app, I can see a car approach and go by. When I view that same file on the FTP server, the video begins after the car has already passed, making the FTP file useless.

I assumed that the camera would save a file to SD, then simply upload that file to the FTP server. But it appears that it saves two separate versions of the same event. Why??

@jasonfish_70655499070 Hi Jason, thank you for the feedback. We have included a 5-second pre-record video by default to each FTP uploaded file. However, due to the possible upload delays caused by the FTP server, it may result in a reduced pre-record video length to only 1 to 3 seconds. If the FTP servers take long to respond to the upload, the 5s pre-order videos may fail to upload.

Also, recording to an SD card or to an FTP server is not the same case. Saving files to an SD card requires no network connection while recording to an FTP server requires a stable network connection. And that's why you may find two versions of the same event. Hope this clarifies.

@reolink-lorenz all you need is to increase the cache and once connectivity is established then transmit the packets.....but the ftp transmission rate from camera side has to be increased and not leaving at St merely 1.2Mbps.

My experience is the same as yours. I find it very frustrating. I have also noticed that Clear and Fluent motion recordings are not identical as to when they begin recording. I have asked for two changes:

            1. Make the FTP motion file match the motion file on SD Card. (and both SD Card recordings match)
            2. Allow the user to specify the number of seconds of prerecord and post record**. (within some reasonable limits)

** Imagine this scenario: There is a lot of traffic down my street. If the actual street is part of the 'detection zone', there would be 100's of recordings of cars going by that I have no interest in. I have set the detection zone to be when someone enters the space close to my front door. But, I would like to know how they came to be at my front door. Did they park at the curb (UPS, Amazon)? Did they walk across the yard (mailman)? So, let the recording start maybe 5 seconds before the person enters the 'zone' and keep going another 5 seconds after they leave it. (or 10 seconds, whatever).

            So far..... nada.

I have RLC-410-5MP and RLC-420-5MP cameras in addition to the RLC-510WA. My suspicion is that engineering resources are allocated to new products and 'latest' products. The older cameras just "do what they do." If the customer doesn't like it, he should buy something else.

I had firmware 3.0, camera said it was the latest. It lied.

                Updating to 3.1 fixed it.

Thank you for your suggestion. We will have the new firmware for RLC-410-5MP and RLC-420-5MP soon. But it is still under development. It will try to fix the unsynchronized problem of the FTP video and SD video. Welcome any feedback after the new firmware releases.

I also experience the default behaviour as problematic. The way this is suppose to be engineered is:

                  1. You save the max bitrate footage to sd card, that way you are guaranteed to have no network latency problems.
                  2. Directly after the file is written and the motion stops, you upload said file to the ftp server, this can experience connect retries (no problem), this can experience slowness (no problem), and so on.
                  3. You tell the user the FTP feature is NOT available without sd card. Which is completely reasonable. Streaming to a ftp location is asking for problems.

edit: I have a 510wa by the way. Which I would love to connect to wired, but just can’t due to its location. So the stability of the sd card is even more important. The wifi is fast but nothing beats local storage, except for the fact that I need to have those files in a secure ftp location as soon as possible.
