@user_746623229407444_746623229407444 So far nothing. We are all waiting to test out the calling feature.

@user_796905230729356_796905230729356 Did you try the calling feature? I need to go to my other property to load it and test it.
-
Looks like the doorbell being removed from the download centre is this a good or a bad thing lol

@user_746623229407444_746623229407444 Something went wrong. I cannot understand why they don't use the community to assist them in testing. There are brilliant people here who can assist without requesting anything.

I uploaded the firmware from the site the other day and not my doorbell keeps ringing.. and my phone won't stop sending me alerts.... tried calling tech support and nada

@issom Try to restore previous fw. Seems to be buggy.
-
I downloaded the latest firmware from the website:
Reolink_video_doorbell_wifi_v30032152401262240_IPC_DB.zip
Firmware installed fine. no issues. seems normal features are still working.
I can change the following settings in the App:
Unfortunately, if I leave the setting screen, and come back the setting has been disabled again.
With some further testing I could get the long-awaited call style notification to work, and it looks like this:
Now for the bad news. It only works if I am IN the setting screen... and only once. If I toggle the setting OFF and back ON again I can get the notification again.
If I leave the setting screen or close the app, it does not work.
In summary. Progress, but It's not working yet.. At least there is finally some proof of life with this.Reply QuoteShare1- Share this Post

@tiaan_781250483077293 This is rather based on push notification and so you need to click on the received notification which will start the application or it will pop up if you are in the application as your case. This is not practical at all.
Implementation should be based on registration of both doorbell and client. One can use either XMPP + SRTP (whatsapp) or SIPS + SRTP(VOIP). Competitors (arlo, wyze, eufy, etc) implemented the voip method. -
Agree with you 100% , sip good Idea , btw NVR can be sip server too .
I have Arlo doorbell beside reolink , using Arlo for calls , great integration with google and Alexa , If reolink will resolve problem of calls, I will remove Arlo from my home !!! -
@joseph_1979 SIP has the most support IMO but maybe XMPP has the most functionality; as long as they use something there's good Linux foss software support from / mobile phone apps (including for whatever encryption), I would be happy to see it.
-
@joseph_1979 I don't particularly care what method they pick to implement. For me, the basic notification was the issue. They seem to have at least implemented something on that front. What I tested was NOT a notification. it was a fullscreen call notice (like a call) with a ringtone that repeats until answered, as can be seen in my screenshot. AFAIK, this is new? Your comment on SIP/VOIP would of course be better, but I'd rather not wait another year.....
-
@artech That implies you need to purchase an NVR with a doorbell. And SIP server requires static public IP (client registration) which is not the case with a number of ISPs. So best option is Reolink/provider hosts the SIP servers.
-
@tiaan_781250483077293 But to have the call emulation you need to have the application running.
-
@joseph_1979
True ,but I am talking about an option, for business customers, I have one right now with VoIP telephone system, 5 Nvrs , 50 cameras , wants 5 doorbells each entrance with sip , ...for now reolink that not an option, -
@joseph_1979 Yes.. I just assumed this is a bug, as a friend of mine has also bene testing, and he is getting the "call alert" whilst his phone is locked.... so... not sure..
-
@tiaan_781250483077293 So why all these complaints. Hopefully they will sort it out like what they did in the past.
-
@joseph_1979
I got answer from support
After further analyzing this issue, they found that, this issue might be related to their push server .
I don't understand reolink doorbell working 100% local , why they did push notifications, cloud based ? -
@artech I have no idea. But this should have been rigorously tested before launching it to the customers. I used to spend over a year testing a Mobile Switching Centre before putting it into service. Similarly for IMS networks. I still cannot understand how their method is going to work. I know all the technicalities around the method employed by Arlo, Eufy and Wyze.
-
@joseph_1979
Now I can receive calls just when App open
Same problem in all devices android and iOS
If I am switching to another app no calls rings!!
Wrote to support, got interesting answer:
"I am sorry to tell you that this is the current design. I agree with you and understand this design is not user-friendly."
They are kidding?
-
@artech I already emailed them that it should not be based on push notification but rather on voip. Personally I wouldn't have released it. They told me that they are working to improve their method. Let's see.
-
@joseph_1979 it’s somehow not serious to make an announcement on a future, that at the end doesn’t working
-
@artech Indeed. Not my philosophy.
-
Whats happening?
-
@artech why my post was removed?
-
@artech YEah... Not user-friendly... That would typically be the case if it doesn't work
-
Installed the new firmware (poe) can't see any of the new features on the app or client are the new features for WiFi only ?
