I would say "for a security cam Clearer is Always Better" and in re: 4K vs 8K vs "a zillion K" at some point we find that the lens becomes a limiting factor to clarity. Though as I listen to myself now I realize too that my iPhone 16 Pro has some pretty amazing glass. Some of us will always buy the best you can make.
@matt_743136365514923 Dunno "device isolation" myself, but just FYI I've had this very problem not with Reolink but with Foscam cameras, and I've found that re-booting my ASUS Wi-Fi router solves it. I have not been able to ascertain what about the router performance might cause it to have trouble with certain wifi devices. Maddening.
Now I have my own iPhone 16 Pro and it too works with Reolink cams/NVR.Might be a shot in the dark, but I observe that Apple has under Settings > Wi-Fi, and then touch (i) Info on your SSID and there's a "Private Wi-Fi Address" setting. Mine is set to Fixed and it works, maybe other settings do not.
@stimpy Although it appears likely to work, and may power 4, maybe 5 cams, I'm not at all sure why this might be a good idea for you vs. the cam's supplied transformer and a convenient AC outlet, with as long an extension cable as you might need. And though I don't know why you'd want to Schedule power to your cam, there are certainly better/cheaper ways to do that also e.g. a TP-Link Kasa controller for example, which would give you remote On/Off control..Maybe if you told us what problem(s) you are looking to solve....?
That the tracking motor is working suggests it's getting power from POE--what device is providing POE to your cams? Does the POE device at the Ethernet jack show lights blinking? The ASUS is not showing the cam as a client? What exactly is telling you this--> says "disconnected"
@nick_26792935116 Nick I'm not sure this is exactly right. I mean, you can't charge the battery-powered cams beyond their capacity. You can get them to 100% with a bigger panel, but then...will that always last you through a dark winter night with lots of activity? It also seems to me that if 3rd party solar panels output more current and voltage than the cam can handle, you could fry the cam's charging circuit.I just bought a "wired" Reolink outdoor camera (no battery) and intend to use a solar panel I have on hand, and a cheap solar charge controller, to charge a 12v battery which in turn powers my "wired" Reolink.I'm not an expert--just feeling my way along with Solar at this point.
Wife has a new 16 Pro w/iOS18 and I got her logged-in and working just fine.
@big_ted Thanks but why should going from 8.15.7 to 8.17.6 mean I have to fiddle with my system? Unless there is a GPU setting within Reolink client that I have not found, it doesn't help whether I assign my laptop GPU to reolink.exe or not.I am running DirectX 11 which obviously has worked fine with older v8 versions.
@big_ted This "update" still has blank (black) video screens for me. So tiresome.
Posted 3 days ago and yet only 8.16.8 appears available.Further, the link in your post goes to Firmware and not App & Client.Deliberately trying to confuse people? Why these basic mistakes?Reolink, do better.
@jing_734911040270566 Just did the update on my W7 Pro laptop and all views are black. No good at all.
@campbell_99 Wow "again"? You mean you bought an NVR and it was an older hardware? One of the recent new camera offerings had me trying to figure-out whether it was compatible with my own RLN8-410 and while I eventually found somewhere buried on this website that it WASN'T, I had a heckuva time finding that info.Someone at Reolink needs to spend a few hours-or-days figuring out how to easiliy advise customers what is compatible and what is not.
I've got a Synology NAS but don't use it with cams so can't help, but your problem feels like a TP-Link problem. Doubt you have a spare POE switch but if you do of course try replacing it first. Next I might be inclined to set-up an "auto-power-reset" for the POE switch each night and see if that helps. Could do that with e.g. a Kasa power cube you can schedule. A more sophisticated thing would be an MSNswitch which might ping the cams and reset the switch to get it running again. That's all I got...
@ken_314845219107008 there are plenty of 3rd party IR illuminators already on the market at good prices. Look for 850nm wavelength.Keep in mind too re: wiring to existing cam feeds that the separate illuminator needs to be a consderable distance from the cam, lest the bugs it attracts are still a problem for the cam's detection.
@joseph_1979 Thanks Joseph I surfed & surfed and couldn't find this.Says "Reolink NVRs with hardware (Hw_H3MB18, Hw_N3MB01, Hw_N2MB02) do not support 16MP, you will be prompted to switch to 6MP resolution." which implies the cams will FUNCTION with my N2MB02, but only if they are set to the reduced resolution am I right? And thereby still record but at 6MP not 16MP?If yes, maybe I would buy a 16MP camera and use it in 6MP mode until I upgrade my NVR.
I can find nothing about any new NVR requirements to support these 16MP cameras. Can I use my RLN8-410 with hardware version N2MB02 with these new cams? Any restrictions at all in re: older NVR hardware?
>Notice: Menu is not visibleYou mean the pop-up you should see at the bottom, showing "reolink" then icons for Scrollview, Display Mode, Playback, BackUp, Settings, and Lock Screen" does not appear even if you right-click on yr mouse? It appears in Pic 1 that you have Settings selected--can you click there and bring-up Settings, or...still freezes? What happens when it freezes; does the NVR reboot itself after some seconds?I've had this happen to my RLN8-410 with same fw as yours and I THINK the problem might have been that not all of my cams was updated to latest firmware. I've not had it happen in some weeks now.
@rjliii_56525500874 FWIW I have had my Reolink NVR system for a couple of years and find the Motion Detection settings to be almost completely impenetrable. I've surfed and surfed the reolink site and nowhere can I find a clear explanation of the relationship between the MD Sensitivity slider and the separate Smart Detection sliders. Have asked here before about these to no responses. I think we're left to try every setting possible (millions of different settings maybe? Someone else can do the math) and never find the sweet spot of happiness.
@don-gato_805086213865620 FWIW if we are right about the UID switch, then everything is still working as when you left, so you are making recordings 24/7 and just can't see them yet! And if you set any alarms, and put-in yr email and/or smartphone, you should be getting those too I believe.
