@big_ted Nobody is asking anymore for the Windows version. More customers are using the Android/IoS and 3rd party applications like HA, BI, etc. Even Reolink are not updating their Win and Mac clients.
-
@joseph_1979 Well I for one use the desktop clients. On what do you base your assertion that "Nobody is asking anymore" for these? If you use a desktop the large screens they provide are a much more functional way of accessing cameras than the relatively tiny screens of smartphones. Don't extrapolate from your own use to generalise that everyone works the same way that you do. I would be devastated if Reolink gave up on the desktop versions.

@nick_26792935116 @joseph_1979 Hi my friend Joseph is talking about real condition. Latest windows client september 2024, and same month also mac. This is terrible, also some firmware are terrible, low bar signal level. I have written so many times to support, but always promise to me but never change or done nothing
-
@nick_26792935116 This can be seen from the updates. See when they have released the last Win update. Most customers are integrating their cameras to third party applications such as HA which provides features not yet available on any Reolink application. The Reolink Windows application is not meant for 24x7. This is how I see it.
-
@joseph_1979
I don't know who would be so silly to watch what goes on around his house on a tiny smartphone screen when they are working on their PC with a 27 inch screen. -
@joseph_1979 I still use a Windows desktop and still want Reolink updates
-
I use the Windows APP while im sitting at my office desk... and when I do setting changes. MOST of the times it off my phone or monitor hooked up the NVR. My fam only uses their phones.
-
@joseph_1979 There is a more recent Windows Client release, the build date for Reolink.exe is 26th Feb 2025.
The version number has been bumped up to 8.18 series.
This latest build seems to be currently on restricted release. I was offered the update last week when running the existing client on my laptop.
The release seems to be quite robust, the software bug that I reported some months back has been fixed. -
@robert-hammond_315369854550200 I had that client (8.18.9) and rolled back. It fails to load the weekly event history for the HHP. Other than that I didn't notice any difference. Most probably it includes new functions for new cams releases.
If you want to download it use https://home-cdn.reolink.us/files/client/electron-release/reolink_setup_8.18.9_0.exe -
@user_615023925190704_615023925190704 Of course. But see how often it is upgraded. Android/IoS clients are updated more frequently.

@joseph_1979 Usual known problems with Reolink. It's easy to produce and sell new products, but if the firmware is not written properly and also the mac, windows clients, and the ios and android apps should be and instead it is not so. Their cameras have great potential, but most of the time it is unexpressed, because for them it is enough that they work and it does not matter if the customer writes, complains about problems with firmware, hardware, software because they will write you rivers of words via email, fake excuses, but then in reality they will not do anything. For them the only mission is to sell, but if the products are poorly supported then those who purchased will not buy again and the word spreads quickly on the web. Many months have passed and from what I read, there is a new windows client version that also works badly. This means only one thing, entrusting the development to incapable and inexperienced collaborators who do not even thoroughly test the program to correct any problems before releasing it. I find all this simply absurd! Personally, and I'm not the only one, I have Reolink wifi cameras that are a maximum of 6 meters away from the router that has 5 antennas and the signal bar has only one bar, and I have asked Reolink several times to intervene to resolve this problem, but after many months and many, too many emails they have never kept any written promise. With previous firmware the signal bar was at the bottom of the scale. How can you say everything is fine, if then I buy a wifi camera and place it for logistical reasons more than 6 meters away and then it loses the connection, the signal? Reolink, please change course and behave appropriately towards customers who trust you and give you money. The forum itself is old, poorly functioning and full of censorship that does not allow you to write anything. After Fiona, slowly the forum was abandoned to its fate.

@mamymam2013_465350299701478 I am a customer like you and I fully understand your frustrations. I cannot understand why their software lags when compared to their competitors. And we are here to tell them where to improve and what we really wish to have. I do email them but finally it is their decision. I do have problems which remained unresolved.
It is hard to make a name but it can easily be destroyed. And there are lots of brands to chose from. -
@joseph_1979 Thanks Joseph your words are right and I fully agree with your answer. The president of Reolink or some manager would do well to read both the forum and the emails that are sent to Reolink. Maybe they would understand something and above all someone from the company would really put their face to it and should necessarily give concrete answers to customers and above all effective and decisive solutions.
-
@mamymam2013_465350299701478 unfortunately, this is the world today.
-
@joseph_1979 You're right, I know, but if you really want to know, I don't like this current world.
-
@mamymam2013_465350299701478 Like it or not, we have to adapt. Sometimes we have to let it go as it is totally useless and in addition it will be detrimental to our health.
-
@joseph_1979 I am also going to roll back to the previous version.
There is an intermittent issue when using playback. Sometimes when trying to return to live view, I see a large play arrow on the centre of the screen rather than the live video view. For me the only way to recover is to re-boot the software.
Unsure why, has now happened twice for no apparent reason. -
@robert-hammond_315369854550200 I won't upgrade unless there is a newer version. They really need to recruit professional experienced test engineers and programmers to improve their firmware and client software.
-
@joseph_1979 Joseph I completely agree with you. It's time to say enough to Reolink that only thinks about making money, but offers barely decent apps and clients if not terrible. Not to mention the firmwares that are equally important, but it would be better if Harry Potter programmed them and we would probably have better results!
-
@robert-hammond_315369854550200 I upgraded to 8.18.10 which has just been released. So far so good. You can download it from
https://home-cdn.reolink.us/files/client/electron-release/reolink_setup_8.18.10_0.exe -
@joseph_1979 Thanks so much! I will install it
-
@joseph_1979 I won't run newer versions of windows than 8.1 since after that Microsoft changed the EULA to basically allow themselves to root through your files and collect any/all data.. Yes you might be able to block it, but 'legally' they upholstered their gun after Win8.1... I also run an old version before they force bundled all updates vs select ones.. hohum... Linux switch soon I suppose.
I must run Reolink client 8.8.5 or I just get blank screens ; and 8.8.5 has some pretty big bugs where program goes black and flashes over and over until you click 'settings/gear' icon then it comes back..
I just bought 4 more reolinks and regretting it as I'm running into more bugs... I added 5 cameras to program and the android app; and when my R2 camera is powered off; it is replaced by higher quality stream from R3 cam.. So I have 2 R3 cams 'on screen'; I could delete it, but then that actually deletes R2 cam.. messed up.. in latest version of android app also...
Wanted higher video quality AND FTP; reolink was almost only provider with FTP support and they do it sooo poorly.. emailed and submitted basic feature requests a few months ago.. nada of course.. so easy to 'fix'/add these features they must not give a ...
Now that I am typing all this out.. maybe I should return while I can.. they do kinda work but ugh..
Edit:
https://home-cdn.reolink.us/files/client/electron-release/reolink_setup_8.18.10_0.exe
Thought I'd mention this version is working in windows 8.1... -
@onlooker_890638347890931 Noted. I told them on various instances that they need to improve the software.
-
@joseph_1979 I would like to point out that in this version of the client, if you have a latest generation e1 zoom, there is no management of the baby crying sound detection which is present on both the Android and iOS apps. As always, Reolink is approximate, and no new functions have been introduced. It's the usual copy and paste and they already take a lot of time and software versions to make it work. Come on Reolink, don't just earn money, spend some money and pay capable technicians and developers and the results will surely not be lacking!
-
@joseph_1979 So much so that I also add, always referring to the approximation with which Reolink works, that after the latest firmware update of both the RLC-511WA and the e1 zoom (hardware version IPC_566SD664M5MP) push notifications finally arrive for both cameras in Italian, but the email sent remained in English. But this is nothing new, Reolink always does things by halves
-
@mamymam2013_465350299701478 Diciamo meta cotto.
-
@joseph_1979
Exactly! Bravo!
-
@joseph_1979 Hi Joseph, Reolink's rough firmware builds continue. I just discovered that both the Rlc-511wa with firmware version v3.1.0.4381_2411301864 and the e1 zoom hardware version IPC_566SD664M5MP and latest firmware v3.1.0.4417_2412122178 the notification sounds are not emitted as for other cameras from the speaker that manages the hands-free of the cell phone, but very slightly only from the speaker that is used in a normal call by placing the ear. If you can report to the right person please thank you. Thanks Reolink from bad to worse!
-
@mamymam2013_465350299701478 What is the model of your smartphone?
@Oskar Can you assist on this please? -
@joseph_1979 Samsung S20 Ultra 5g
-
@joseph_1979 Firmwares rollback? For RLC-511wa I will lost Animal AI Recognition feature added. Unfortunately no one answered me and no one from Reolink reads. They only care about selling products and making money, but the times of the good precious and capable Fiona now seem to be far away. It is absurd that no one from Reolink reads and takes seriously what is written by their customers/users in the forum!
-
@joseph_1979 Just sent an email to Reolink support
I just discovered that both the Rlc-511wa with firmware version v3.1.0.4381_2411301864 and the e1 zoom hardware version IPC_566SD664M5MP and latest firmware v3.1.0.4417_2412122178 the notification sounds are not emitted as for other cameras from the speaker that manages the hands-free of the cell phone, but very slightly only from the speaker that is used in a normal call by placing the ear. Making rollback for RLC-511wa I have lost Animal AI Recognition feature added and for e1-zoom new function Crying Sound Detection and privacy mode added. Also, on latest windows client Crying Sound Detection and privacy mode added are not present in the program. Also, Rlc-511wa wifi bar signal is very low. Please avoid listing the usual useless stupid tests to do because I know them all and they are useless. Instead, inform the right people so that they can solve these serious problems. I paid for the cameras and they must work correctly, and if faulty firmware is released it is certainly not my fault. Don't make fun of me as usual, but solve it, thanks.
-
@joseph_1979 Hi friend, rollback done. Futures lost but now notifications sounds they work perfetcly again.
-
@mamymam2013_465350299701478 I saw customers complaining about this on the Samsung S2X series. Have a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/reolinkcam/comments/11dls0e/how_to_set_custom_notification_sound_galaxy_s20/
-
@joseph_1979 Thanks but he only manner to hear again push notification "firmware rollback" 2 days ago I have written to reolink support but 0 replies

no but I am waiting on a reply with the changes and will post here when I get them. -
See the change log below for V8.18.10_0:
- Updated to the new company logo.
- Added “Decryption Tool", allowing customers to decrypt videos downloaded from the Home Hub.
- Added the introduction page for using the Home Hub as a Chime when the doorbell is connected to the Home Hub.
Im suspecting that more was changed, but this is all the information provided.
