Hi all,
The new Client v8.8.4 has been uploaded. You can download the new Client in our Download Center via this link: https://bit.ly/3DAYQ7H
What's New:
1. Added Horizontal Tracking Range: You can set up the left/right limit to define the horizontal range of the auto-tracking. We also added a display of the position when adjusting the left/right limit. (Available for all cameras that support auto-tracking.)
2. Added Auto-tracking Schedule. (Available for all cameras that support auto-tracking.)
3. Added Time to Stop Tracking: You can set the time setting to stop tracking after the tracking object stops/disappears. (Available for all cameras that support auto-tracking.)
4. Added intelligent Audio Noise Reduction function: Audio Noise Reduction can help reduce the noise in tracking and the surrounding environment and improve the two-way audio experience. (TrackMix Only)
5. Dual-view camera series adaptation: when your camera is connected to NVR, you can now view and switch the stream for the telephoto lens (tracking view) by right-clicking your mouse. (TrackMix/RLC-81MA)
6. Added Pre-Alarm Sound: the camera will have a small sound (smaller than the normal alert sound) before the normal alarm, which can also have a deterrent effect. (Only battery-powered cameras support the Pre-Alarm Sound feature)
7. Support more languages: Spanish, Greek, and Traditional Chinese.
Improvements:
1. You can switch stream types in the Playback interface based on the camera or channel.
2. Pet detection is set to default enabled. Removed Beta switch for Pet detection and added the explanation of this feature.
3. Regulated the input restrictions of special characters in email addresses, passwords, domain names, etc.
4. You can download a group of videos instead of one composite video when a time-lapse video task file is more than 2G.
5. Optimized Client Settings like Port Settings's UI.
6. Added a retry option after failing to connect the camera.
7. Modified the transparency of the no-alarm zones.
8. Supported manually closing the PTZ in the PTZ Monitor Point, Preset, and Patrol.
9. Default speed and dwell time of Patrol changed to 32s and 10s.
10. Devices manually added by the user will be displayed at the top of the device list and automatically scroll to the top of the list when added.
Fixed:
1. The AI alarm events were removed in the cameras that do not support the AI detection in the Night Mode.
2. Fixed the problem that TrackMix channel's background picture of the covered area taken by telephoto lens may be incorrectly displayed as the wide-angle picture in NVR;
3. Fixed the problem that the preview and playback of doorbell channel in the NVR are not fixed or stretched;
4. Fixed the problem that the playback control bar does not display the visitor type after the doorbell channel of the NVR is dragged into the playback;
5. Fixed the problem that the position will be changed after updating the PTZ Monitor Point;
6. Fixed the problem that the long file name of the firmware upgrade package would cause the failed upgrade.
7. Fixed the problem that the device network setting may display the wrong WiFi type when there are 2.4G and 5G WiFi with the same name.
8. Fixed other known bugs.Reply QuoteShare1- Share this Post

@reolink-fiona Thanks for the update. I had a quick glimpse and noted the following.
- This update will delete all the configurations done on the installed version and one has to start adding the devices from scratch. Developers should have done this transparent to users.
- Points 1 to 3 are not applicable to the E1 AI Zoom despite it has auto tracking. Maybe there is the need of a firmware upgrade.
- Pictures in the already defined presets are not loaded.
Update: These seem to arise when upgrading from 8.10beta. -
@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 I'm not sure I understand. I installed over 8.8.2 and every camera remained populated, i.e. there was no need to add cameras from scratch. Also, all of my preset thumbnails are present and working fine. What am I missing?

Since installing 8.8.4 any time it is running (anywhere on my LAN) my router reports/logs a never-ending stream of possible DNS re-bind attacks. Here is a small snippet from the log:

Feb 2 18:16:42 dnsmasq[4075]: possible DNS-rebind attack detected: p2p13.reolink.com
I hope you can understand that I do not find disabling the router's re-bind protection and/or whitelisting a slew of reolink web sites that I will never intrinsically trust viable options. Can you provide a link to 8.8.2 so I can get rid of this version ASAP please? My bad for not saving a copy....Reply QuoteShare0- Share this Post

@user_645880601444421_645880601444421 Hi, there. These are reserved domain names and point to the 127.0.0.1 local loop, not pointing to any server, which is safe.
For example, by pinging these two addresses, you will know that both addresses point to the 127.0.0.1 local loop.
ping p2p16.reolink.com
ping p2pm-abr.reolink.com -
@reolink-fiona Can you supply a link to 8.8.2 please? There was no need for this before, there is no need for this on the Android and iOS now, and there is no need to flood the router logs with 86,000 events every day

After downloading and testing on my RLC-823A`s, I take it that Horizontal Tracking Range and most of the other features are still not available to any of us using Reolink NVR`s?
If this is the case I have to say i'm getting very disappointed with Reolink at this point, especially with regards to people who have invested in NVR`s and Reolinks ecosystem.
We specifically requested this along time ago, not happy at all to be constantly at the back of the que.
Back at the beginning of december we were told with RLC-823A & RLC-523WA Tracking Beta 4.0 Firmware, the Tracking range could not be used with users for NVR`s as a firmware would be coming soon. Now the client is out and still no update.Reply QuoteShare1- Share this Post

@martin-kistell_73972976554167 Hi, have you upgraded the firmware of RLC-823A to tracking beta 4.0? This firmware will support these new auto-tracking functions in client.

@martin-kistell_73972976554167 Thanks for information..

This is really impressive
-
Since installing 8.8.4 my client using it on PC goes blank after 10 minutes ive disable hardware decoding and made no difference all previous clients have been just fine thx
-
Since updating my Windows client to 8.8.4 I noticed following: in a split view where all feeds have "Fluent" quality selected which is generally fine with me, but then when I double click to enlarge certain camera view that feed is also "Fluent" which is not ok, as I have to select "Clear" every time when I open single camera. Before this update it remembered what quality I had set when viewing single camera.

@sverde1_345727230935201 Here the same problem. Every time I have to switch from Fluent to Clear.
-
@sverde1_345727230935201 Same problem here too. I sometimes wonder if the Reolink software team have any idea how to test their software. They keep making stupid mistakes like this, and it's quite concerning really!
-
One of my 823a's doesn't track at all after this update and the other 823a only partially tracks. It doesn't want to track fully to the right. Please provide the latest update previous to this one.

@guymwilliamson7_483830574665915 Try to restore camera.
-
Well, this update was worse. Live view freezes after a while, and you can't change and store the image quality to clear. I've gone back to a previous version now. Its still not great, but better than this one!
I dont understand. Yes you've added new features for new cameras, thats fine, but basic features that certainly weren't perfected, are now even worse or missing....AGAIN!
Its getting to the point that someone needs to make 3rd party software, as the camera's themselves are excellent! -
very bad update
doesnt start unless i go to the task manager and end the task to restart!
and fluent is always on!Reply QuoteShare4- Share this Post

@bo-fawzi_444846568546497 Same problem for me as well - if I already have opened and closed the Reolink client, it will not start again until I force close the running instances in task manager on Windows 10.
-
@bo-fawzi_444846568546497 Same issues in regards to having to go to task manager and force close before I can re-open the client.
-
@Reolink-Fiona In the client's settings I have "Automatic Client Update" selected on two computers, but the client never updates. Based on your post, it has been 5 days since Client v8.8.4 has been available and v8.7.1 is still running on one of my computers, and v.8.8.2 is running on another computer.
What's the point of the "Automatic Client Update" setting if it never works?
But it gets worse. In both v8.7.1 and v.8.8.2, when I click on "Upgrade", I still get an erroneous message that says I'm running the latest version. This problem should have been fixed by now, as it is extremely bad UX (user experience)--especially since it's giving a false message. What's the point of the Upgrade button if it never works?
Were these problems fixed in v8.8.4?Reply QuoteShare2- Share this Post

@campbell_99 Hasn't worked in years!

This post is deleted! -
1 If minimized for a while the client will go black, even if hardware decode first is disabled
2 If left open for while it'll sometimes freeze, other times it will go black
3 In either case the client will not restart unless you open task manage and terminate the Reolink processes (I usually need to kill 4)
4 It doesn't remember video quality settings after switching single video to tile and vise versa
I've gone back to 8.8.2. If you click on update it doesn't know 8.8.4 exists, which is an excellent thing since I wouldn't recommend it to anybody, at least not on WIndowsReply QuoteShare0- Share this Post

@user_645880601444421_645880601444421 I have been running both the 8.10beta and the 8.8.4 without the issues you raised in points 1 to 3. Point 4 is an issue which they need to correct. Yes, the upgrade doesn't work on neither the camera nor the application. I have raised this with support but didn't get a valid answer. I think that this may overload the servers where the firmware and application reside. I also proposed to at least prompt the user with a pop up informing him/her that there is a newer version.
Hope that this will be implemented.

Windows client version 8.8.4 is no longer opening individual camera feeds to "clear" automatically when maximizing the feed. You had this bug before in a previous version but later fixed it, however unfortunately you brought this bug back again with version 8.8.4.

@bbugaski_390328908112013 Oh darn.
Just when I was happy that it now remembers the resolution setting in the grid view.... -
@user_630727559069699_630727559069699 This is an old problem from a client released a few versions ago but then was corrected. However the issue was brought back again. Lazy programming!
-
I have noticed yet another issue with Windows Client version 8.8.4 on Windows 10. If I close the client, I am unable to re-open the client unless I go in to task manager and force close any open instances of the client. This update just keeps on getting better and better!

@bbugaski_390328908112013 I am running Client 8.8.4 on Win 10 without any issue at all. So there is issue with your environment. Check background programs and that your windows has all the upgrades.
-
@joseph-chircop_497308027822318 Sorry to tell you the bad news - This is Reolink's problem. The previous client revision did not exhibit any of these issues that surfaced after updating. Please, don't give them any excuses.
-
This Windows Client version freezes just like its previous versions. No matter which ones I've had in the last 2 years! It doesn't matter whether it's Windows 7, Windows 10 or Windows 11. It doesn't matter whether the operating system was freshly installed and newly installed, the software stops at different times. You have to stop them and look in the Windows Task Manager and also kill the running instances, otherwise you can't restart them!
I have 5 external cameras running and 5 internal ones, so a total of 10 cameras. What the software also doesn't like when I switch off a camera, you don't always need all of them. The software then constantly searches for the camera, which also costs system resources. I also have the feeling that the client software then freezes even faster. (if all the cameras are running, there are 10 of them! (to save energy, not all of them are running all the time, I disconnect those where I don't always need them from the power supply) 8 cameras are running right now!)
It honestly annoys me, I'm tired of waiting months for a new update and then it's always the same, the software freezes. And nobody comes to me with a new installation, that has nothing to do with it!!! I have it running on different computers and it happens on all windows operating systems. You can't set a time either, sometimes it only runs for 10 minutes, sometimes 2 hours, so that varies.
I've also noticed that the client freezes faster when the computer is a little busier in the background.
I have no idea, that's not my problem, I'm just a customer and I think before you constantly add any innovations to the badly programmed software, you should first make sure that the software is running stably, and you should also use a button to search for cameras that are already integrated in the client to switch off. The constant search for a switched off camera costs too many system resources.

@smarthome-wifi_457296088305827
I know this doesn't address your issue but Windows OS is junk. I migrated to Mac after Windows 10 and never look back. I highly recommend you look into Mac with Apple Silicon chip. I throw everything at it and the chip just yawns. -
@jedi2020_32727772450952 This is not the problem here, guy. Stop blaming Windows and giving Reolink damn excuses for their lazy code work.

@smarthome-wifi_457296088305827 Have used client on Windows 10 for a few years and no problems.
Today - new computer, windows 11. Install 8.8.4 - it sees devices but I had to edit password for 1. Then BANG screen goes black. I uninstalled and re-installed, tried the hardware switch. BANG all black again. Very frustrating! REOLINK??????Help us out here!

Hi Fiona, you said previously in this thread "The new firmware of NVR will be released around the end of this month." So people with NVRs can access these features.
Can we please get an update?Reply QuoteShare1- Share this Post

8.8.4... not great. It defaults to fluent mode every time, so whenever you click a camera to enlarge, you have to constantly change the resolution to clear, it doesn't remember the settings now.
Also I don't see any of the new auto tracking features on my three 823-A cameras, despite having loaded an updated firmware that they sent me last week, and my NVR has the latest, so who knows...
And yeah, that feature for updating the client version or firmware version from within the app never worked, why is it even there?
Luckily I kept my previous client version 8.8.1 so I fell back to that.

@mikesixtysix_376026488033512 Don't worry we are just being ignored at this point, were were promised an update for the NVRs near the end of last month now silent. To be honest I'm now giving up on Reolink.
-
@martin-kistell_73972976554167 China may be on lockdown again or the authorities took "Fiona" away to a reeducation camp.
-
Version 8.8.4 - This one is a giant step backward for the multi-camera view. You are forced to look at everything in crappy fluent resolution - option was removed in this update to see anything in higher resolution. Why not allow CLEAR resolution as a choice? Understand that uses more bandwidth, but at least allow the user to make the choice. I want the old version back - seems with this update, you added some new features but removed something else that was previously a great feature or option. Also notice what others have said about playback always forcing LOW resolution and making you choose the higher resolution EVERY SINGLE TIME.
May as well get cheaper lo-res cameras if you have to look at them like this in the multi-camera view. Why buy high resolution 4K cameras only to be forced by the software to see blurry low-resolution images? Please listen to your customers.
