@kimchigun For the most part, dBm is the way that most network engineers measure signal strength. This is how we measure it at work. However, many manufacturers use an additional measurement called RSSI ( Received Signal Strength Indicator) to measure signal strength. Most probably Reolink is using this parameter. The most accurate measurement of WiFi signal strength is measured in mW. However, there ends up being a bunch of decimal places because WiFi has low transmit power, so we more commonly measure in the decibels with relation to milliwatts known as dBm. Since WiFi signal strength is less than zero dBm, it's measured in the negatives. But RSSI is only a relative index because each manufacturer uses an arbitrary set of units. This unit of measurement is different all the time because it's being pulled from the client's device. For example, the Atheros WiFi chipset measures RSSI based on values 0 (no signal) to 60 (max. signal). While other chipsets might use different values, such as 0-100 or even 0-255. I have no idea what chipset Reolink is using. I never opened their cameras so far. All I can say is that with other cams the signal strength indicator is more realistic than on TM.
Hey Dude, I don't even know how to answer this. You went on a rant of wireless signal readings. But I was just specifying in layman terms on how wireless works. It's a 2 way street. You took this left on a curiously odd reason. I am a network/wireless engineer BTW... So yeah, keep on keeping on dude. I applaud you for all the work you do in the forums.
Ohhh more smart detection added... this is nice! Cant wait for it to release to other models! Been waiting for the "Zone" configurations for a while... Great Job Reolink!
@mamymam2013_465350299701478 WiFi Signal is a 2 way street... the device needs to be reach back to the wireless router, and vice versa.
I think you need to look at what you are needing.Ultra wide is ultra...wide. But it usually has a very small vertical FOV. Unlike the 1240A, which had a huge FOV, but not as wide as the ultra-wide cams. I prefer the ultra wide if I'm trying to capture a large area. Then i use other models when I need more accurate view.
@user_822884704698612_822884704698612 Need more details on how its connected? using POE switch? You cant see your DHCP table within your router? There should be a list of connected clients within the router. If you could bring the camera down plug it up closer to the router with a short drop cable, that will confirm is there is a faulty cable or cam.
@user_726740213256441_726740213256441 Sounds like you are running out of power on the switch. Get a bigger POE switch. Upgrade the switch to a POE+ switch. Also, wireshark trace isnt for the faint of heart, if you dont know what you are looking at.
@supaman22 No, you will run out of power... per the port. So the new cameras prolly required more power and a power cycle is a symptom of a low power.Consider a POE+ or a POE++/ BT switch.
@joseph_1979 Took me a while to test this... I reset it. Tried what you mentioned and the time keeps jumping back 1 hour like 2 hours after setting it.
I have my DUO 3 POE updated to the latest firmware from April. No matter what I do the time goes back 1 hour. I set it through the phone, cam GUI, APP... it bounces back 1 hour after about an hour or so. I have the Time Zone set correctly.it doesn't change is i set the NTP server or not. Same results. Is this a bug? or am I missing something?
@joseph_1979 Ok thanks...
I'm on my way of swapping out my old cams with all reolink.
I am super interested in a RLC-840A. If I had to put it on the wall, rotate the base, and turn it at a full left angle. Within the cam, I can rotate the screen, so it makes it a landscape view. So does the 125 degree FOV stay in the portrait mode? or does it landscape with the FOV switch within the cam?Does that make sense?
@reolinkshayla Very Very Very Nice!! Look forward to getting a few of these!!
@reolinkshayla Finally a battery powered door bell! Been waiting for this for a long time!!Will it have capabilities for a solar panel?
@joseph_1979 I did with the same results.
I'm seeing the same issue on my Duo 3... The hour goes back 1 hour every few hours. I have to set it back.Tried it on my phone and on the app, even set it to a NTP server. Still switches back randomly.
@joseph_1979 Will do! Thanks a bunch dude!
I bought a Duo 3 and I love the cam.Wish there was a little more manual logic within the FOV of Motion Detection Selection.Would be nice to have a FOV grid of selection of the area you want to be active for motion. There is one for exclusion of motion detection. Would be nice to have a FOV Motion selection for each Smart Detection. Seperate from the regular motion. For example, I'd like to set a box around my walkway leading to my front door... To just detect Human Motion. I don't really need people walking their dogs at the main road being included. I know that sucks up some resources on the cam, but giving us maximum of 4 FOV Motion Detection options would be great. I'll be ok to have this set only on the Desktop APP and or logged into the NVR.
@joseph_1979 You will need to confirm you have good wireless signal between the mesh points.I would suggest anything below -60. If you get up in the -70 to -80, the wireless bridge will not sustain the load.
@joseph_1979 Ah! gotcha! thanks for the response!
I finally bought my 1st Reolink Cam Duo 3... I'm so excited!Selling my UniFi Protect and UNV systems. Burned former employee, so I'm done with them!Anyway, I'm super interested in the PTZ cams, but I do see this option "Smart Patrol". Is this feature on all the PTZ cams? Or certain models? Thanks,KG!
