Client v8.10.2 Beta Test: Improve Live-view Streaming Fluency And Save Stream Mode Setting
-
Hi everyone,
We have received a lot of feedback from you in the v8.8.5 Client release. We have looked more into live-streaming fluency and used a new framework to optimize. Now we may need your help to test the Client's fluency to make it better. Come on bug hunters!
Download it via https://bit.ly/41LhWCh (Windows Only)
What are the main updates:
1. Save the stream mode setting that you choose even after the Client reopens.
2. Optimize client resource usage and performance
3. Optimize the startup speed
What to test:
1. The live-streaming fluency in different stream modes(fluence/balanced/clear)
2. Live-steaming performance after a long time of live-streaming(1-5 days)
3. Other feedback
Thank you so much for your help! Let me know if you have any feedback.Reply QuoteShare1- Share this Post

@reolink-fiona Now the resolution settings are being stored and retrieved correctly. As for the application starting time, it seems to be the same as the previous version. As stated we are here to support you and before you launch the client.......put it here and we shall test and provide feedback. Thanks for your support and good work.
Performance and resource usage is quite good. I left it in the background for around 3 hours and no freeze. But whenever there is an upgrade.......there is always an omission of a feature :)............ No full screen again. Please put it back. -

This beta version has fixed the problem of downloads hanging when downloading a large number of videos. It is also a lot quicker and better than the current official release.
But the download problem was also fixed in the last beta version but the file changes never made it to the official release. Hopefully these file (downloading) changes make it to the official release!!!Reply QuoteShare2- Share this Post

@john_350143387672724 Maybe the framework behind the 8.10.x is different from that of 8.8.x. Download of large files was fixed in previous beta version as you correctly stated.

No full screen. The full screen [ ] icon is missing.

Reporting an observed bug.
My 10 inch laptop has Intel UHD Graphics 600
driver dated 26/02/2022
version 30.01.101.2079
resolution 1920 x 1200
Observation....
If I close the new Beta full screen, when I re-start the program the very right hand side of the screen is missing (see attached jpg from my low down garden cam).
If I close the new Beta not on full screen, then when i re-start the program the screen works correctly when changed to full screen.Reply QuoteShare0- Share this Post

@robert-hammond_315369854550200 I can't reproduce your scenario. Note that the full screen icon is missing from this beta version. What do you mean by full screen? Clicking on the arrow near camera 4?
-
@joseph_1979 The page full screen button in the top right hand corner.
When the Square is shown, the program is running full screen, if two overlapping squares are shown then the program is running in a mode that does not completely fill the screen.

8.8.5 kept giving me a black screen (a separate permanent one apart from my PC just for streaming Reolink) and I'm now using this new version. It's been running all day and so far I've had no problem at all.

@joker Update
Where's the full-screen option gone? Why have you removed it? I have a separate monitor specifically set apart from my desktop to monitor my driveway, and without the full-screen capability I'm losing up to 24% of that screen's real estate to my PC's taskbar and Reolink's client screen surroundings. Is this absence of a full-screen option going to be a permanent thing? These questions need to be answered because, as it is, Reolink just isn't an option for me anymore.

Mine won't save the stream at all. If I load the program, double click that camera to go to full size and change the stream, then go to another camera and do the same thing, when I go back to the first camera its back to fluent?

@neil_chaplin_is_450076909830276 I did follow your sequence but wasn't able to reproduce it. Stream setting was preserved.
Update 1: This morning I ran the client and all the streams were FLUENT. Then I changed to clear and clicked on another camera........and it was fluent and I changed it to CLEAR. I went back to the first camera and the stream mode was FLUENT again. I moved to the other camera and it was FLUENT again. I quitted the client and re-run it and the same behaviour was observed. I even changed the stream mode to CLEAR and on the same camera I click on Playback....then I return to the live view of the same camera and the stream mode changed to FLUENT. So in every camera I select the stream is ALWAYS FLUENT irrespective of how it was set before. This is definitely a bug on the way the stream mode setting is stored.
Re-installing the same client will not solve the issue. Thus simply shows that it uses the previous settings under AppData which have not been erased. I cannot find which file is used to store these settings...had to time to investigate.
For sure thus was caused by the actions I did to try and reproduce the scenario mentioned by Neil. Support notified. Will await for their feedback.
Update 2: I deleted the Reolink folder under AppData (both Local and Roaming) and re-installed the client. Now it is storing the stream modes correctly. But still didn't figure out which file was storing these variables. -
@joseph_1979 Thank you for flagging this with support.
I have also tested it on my home PC, which I updated from 8.8.2 to the current and it works as it should. The second PC that I described from before I just installed the new 8.10, so it would appear that coming from a version that would save it to the current it works and if it was a new install it does not work. I did go through all the system registry files and removed reolink and reinstalled and just the local AppData and it still didn't work, I will try also the roaming to see if that sorts it out.

Just discovered that whereas Reolink Windows Client has been installing in C:\Program Files (x86), this new 8.8.10 beta installed in C:\Program Files. (not x86).
A bit "odd". Also, Reolink continue to be inconsistent in how the installation file is named. (sometimes Capital letters, sometimes lower case, sometimes "." in the number, sometimes not.)Reply QuoteShare0- Share this Post

@crimp-on_62210811129 Because 8.10.2Beta runs in native mode (assuming 64bit OS) while 8.8.5 runs under the x86-32 emulator. In simple terms 8.10.2Beta is a 64bit client whilst 8.8.5 is a 32bit client. Therefore when you have upgraded to 8.10.2Beta this was rather a new installation and you still have the 8.8.5 in the 32bit directory. The installation program should have taken care of the deletion. The configuration is stored in the AppData and so no need to copy anything from the 32 to 64 bit directory.

It seems that the drag-and-drop of the camera to the layout has been broken since 8.8.5 and remains broken even on 8.10.2. Do we know when the issue will be fixed?
Besides that, I do see minor performance improvement.
