Hi all,
We have received a lot of feedback about the 1:1 ratio in the recent app 4.36 update. We've made a proposal for the following display and interaction change. We need your help to share your opinions on whether we made these changes.
What is changed:
1. Change the black bar to white on the live view or playback page when in light mode.
2. Change pinch to zoom in/out to double-click to zoom, where the image can fill the screen and be dragged to view.
Please take a look at the changes in the video. Tell me anything below.Reply QuoteShare-3- Share this Post

@reolink-fiona Please confirm or otherwise the following.
- That the icons will be displayed throughout the live view.
- In full screen view, the picture stretches across the whole screen.
The idea of zooming in/out by a click is quite good. Thanks for letting us providing feedback. -
@reolink-fiona
My question regarding the new zoom function is that how does one adjust the zoom level? It is great that you simply tap where you want to zoom. I get that. But I don't see the zoom level control in your video to adjust the zoom level. -
@reolink-fiona That is all very nice that you ask for opinion, but you forgot the most important opinion of the users: bring back the stretch view! At least an option to toggle it on or off. Why was that abandoned anyway?
-
@reolink-fiona 1:1 is useful, i guess... but having the option to fit to screen on a small mobile device is far more useful. With small screens making the image evan smaller to be "true" to the sensor resolution is mostly pointless for the majority of your cameras.
-
Sample video:
We have 13 cameras using this App which we monitor in clusters of 4-9 and the changes have really affected our perception and viewing of the areas we monitor. With full screens joined together we observed fluid transfer from one camera to the next however the gap between the views is awful. Our iPads appear to be normal but our iPhones aren’t the same. Whatever you’ve done it’s been for the worst. Please reinstate the system or at least allow us the choice.
-
@reolink-fiona…this 1:1new update is horrible. I hope you guys are seeing that everyone hates the new look on live view. This is making want to go to another security brand that dose offer full screeen view.
-
I do not agree at all with the 1:1 ratio in vertical mode and the two subsequent proposed improvements.
As others have stated, the 1:1 ratio in this app.4.36 creates a top-to-bottom and left-to-right space in vertical mode and a left-to-right space in full-screen mode. We find that blank space physiologically unacceptable. Therefore, the first of the additional suggestions makes no sense at all.
The second additional suggestion (double-tap to switch to zoom mode instead of pinch) would kill the split-screen/single-screen return function, which would create new complaints.
I also find the automatic disappearance of the control icons on the Live Live View screen highly stressful. In addition to reinstating the stretch mode switch, an auto-hide switch for the control icons should be added. -
@reolink-fiona
This stupid change in the 1:1 aspect ratio reminds us of how we feel about graffiti in St. Petersburg: everyone likes it, but as soon as 1 asshole writes a complaint, the graffiti is painted over. Hear the users, we don't need your degradations, no matter how good you think about them, and whoever on the development team thinks that "oh how cool, the image is without distortion, I'll go buy a 4:3 TV like before" Why all these updates are needed if I am forced to use version 4.35.1.1? -

@reolink-fiona
Why on earth are you doing a poll? You know the way it looked before, so please return it to that. There are multiple things wrong with the last updates. Just go back to the last known good.
what was the rationale to make all of these changes all of a sudden?

My videos no longer fills the screen of my iPhone with this latest update. I prefer to see my screen filled properly with the video feed without me having to take action. I liked the look and feel prior to this update.

One possible solution to this issue is to check your video settings to ensure that they are optimized for your screen size and resolution. You may be able to adjust the aspect ratio or zoom settings to better fill the screen with your video feed.

The 1:1 view is terrible and makes Reolink's app look old. I prefer the fill/wide screen. All phones/mobile devices/TVs are all wide screen now and going back to the old CCTV display is the wrong choice.
I also asked Reolink to create an Apple TV app. This would be great on Apple TV so users can use a big screen TV for showing their cameras....Again the 1:1 would NOT look good on a big screen. Go back to the old stretch display please.Reply QuoteShare4- Share this Post

Another thing I don't understand is that, even with the original stretch video, you can zoom in by pinching (iOS app). So I don't understand the 1:1. If 1:1 is here to stay, I agree that the option of having the user decide between 1:1 and stretch would be a compromise. But there really is NO need for 1:1.
-
I really would like the strech display option to come back.

I like the change to 1:1 but I do think there should be an option to enable stretch mode like on the PC client.
I also use the dark mode background and white is too bright around the video.
the current zoom works well for me but would be great for a double tap to zoom to that part of the image.Reply QuoteShare-3- Share this Post

@curtis-cam_603085718290534 I did the upgrade and had no issues. Can you try to restore one of the cameras and check again?

This new update that just happen. 1:1 completely sucks. Technology is so advanced and it seems like now we went back to the old age era. We have big tablets or phones that now are not capable of being fully used. I love reolink camera but this update is forcing me to change to another system. I own 16 channel nvr that now looks like garbage because the images are not displayed well. It messes with your eyes. It’s funny how one of the managers response to everyone not liking the update. Is WELL I LIKE THE UPDATE. I HATE TO BRAKE IT TO YOU. ITS NOT ABOUT YOU ITS ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMERS THE CONSUMERS. With out us you make bo money on them. I hope reolink take this serious because they will loose a lot of customers. Give us back the option to have the old view
-
I would also like the app to go back to how it was. Seriously annoying the 1:1 ratio and it feels like going back 10 years. I don't understand who even came up with that idea ? I think Reolink strongest cards is it's software and app. So why would you compromise this ?
Please put it back asap.
Thank you -
Hate it need old ratios back plz

Why have the option to toggle 'stretch view' on the Windows and Mac client and not the iOS and Android app suddenly? Is there a logical reason for why the settings were removed from the mobile apps and not the software clients? I admin a few NVR's and the amount of users complaining to me about the new forced aspect ratio is bothersome. Please re-add the option for 'stretch view' on both mobile apps... and let the end user decide what works best for them.
Also, pinching to have the zoom be locked to the center of the screen makes no sense. Instead of one combined motion of zoom and drag to view a detail anywhere other than the center... I now zoom, then drag, then zoom, then drag, and on and on.
If it wasn't such a pain to revert / downgrade to a previous version in iOS, there is no question I'd be back on the previous build. If I was an Android user, there is no question I would be using an APK to get back on an acceptable release.Reply QuoteShare4- Share this Post

@yursbarngrill_202827611205782
The latest iOS app which was released a few days ago fixed the pinch zoom issue. -
@jedi2020_32727772450952
I think that you may have missed the point. The ZOOM pinch works fine for single camera views. When viewing one camera in portrait mode, swipe left to see a list of your cameras and you will see a the 1:1 view which everyone is complaining about. It used to fill/stretch the cameras in that view. Now it looks old and dated.
-
As others have mentioned. The 1:1 default ratio with the latest app version is horrible. Who at Reolink thought this was a good idea? What purpose does it serve. It makes your live stream look like it's from the 90's. I was going to get additional cameras from you but not until you correct this huge mistake.
-
Unacceptable how it looks now on IOS no stretch and black borders. Deal breaker!!! Will be looking for another solution!
-
Can you please fix the 1:1 ratio issue. It is horrible. How did this ever get past any validation / regression testing? Someone signed off on this and said it was ok? 🫤

Hi Reolink,
Don't complicate things for us and break things that work good today!- Add an option to use stretch or no stretch
- Add an option to use zoom by double tap (for the users that feels this is the way)
- For all new features you add to the app/client, just give us, your users, the power to decide for ourselves with an added option to turn it off or on.

Bring back the stretch image feature on iOS iPhone. App looks like crap.
I am writing this as a long-time customer of Reolink. Recently, I was surprised to learn that the Stretch Mode feature, which has been an important part of the security camera world, has been removed from your latest software updates. I cannot understand why anyone at Reolink thought it was a good idea to remove such an essential feature.
I relied heavily on the Stretch Mode feature, which allowed me to adjust the aspect ratio of the camera feed to fit my device's screen. However, without this feature, the viewing of the feeds looks distorted and bad, making it challenging to monitor the area effectively.
1 appreciate the efforts that Reolink has made to improve its products and services. However, the removal of the Stretch Mode feature is unacceptable.
As a loyal customer, l urge you to reconsider your decision and bring back this crucial feature.
I understand that product design and development is a challenging process, but as a customer, I believe it is essential that Reolink listens to its customers' feedback and takes appropriate action to address their concerns.
Therefore, I request you to modify your product releases and include the Stretch Mode feature once again. This would make a significant difference to your customers, including myself.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to hearing back from you soon. -
ReoLink App Version 4.36.1 - The ratio of the player interface changed to 1:1 in vertical mode was released around Mar 29, I opened a ticket up with ReoLink support that day. Apr 3 ReoLink App Version 4.36.2 was released very quickly with no fix, I was very disappointed.
Why is it taking so long to release a fix for this aspect ratio 1:1? Source control can back those changes out in seconds. other wise you should offer for IOS user TestFlight option. the support person offered .apk download why not TestFlight? or better yet fix the issue.
No one can say the new version looks better? Compare the two

@jimbrown-net Download center still shows version 4.36.1.2 (which the majority of us have) and you have version 4.37.0.18? So they have released an application just for you ONLY :).
