I made my own wood corner bracket, screwed to the soffit. I didn't want to drill into the brick. I bought the straight down tube bracket for the 823A later when they were briefly in stock but haven't installed it.
@jedi2020_32727772450952 Thanks for the review and pics. I've had my DUO 2 for about two weeks, installed above my garage facing the street. I'm very happy with it. It detects cars from like a block away, amazing. I also just use SD cards currently.
I think either place would work. Looks like the lights affect part of the view either place. If you have a long enough ethernet cable you could temporarily run it outside through the front door or garage door, use ladder to hold the cam at both places so you can see what the view would look like. Hold cam in one hand, your cell phone in other, or have someone help. I've done this a couple times. Or go ahead and install the cam bracket in both places with a temporary cable, then decide.
There's several Youtube videos about it.
@info_379608157057245 That's quite a wish list, would certainly add a lot to the cost. I don't know of any brand trail cam that does all this. More batteries, bigger or more solar panels, the more difficult to conceal. I have a relative that's a conservation officer, some call them game wardens. He says a lot of trail cams get stolen or damaged by people. Trail cams are made to be small and camouflaged so they can be hidden. 24/7 live streaming is impractical with battery cams. Also, many cameras intentionally have their own proprietary firmware and their own cloud storage that earn monthly fees (profit). Companies want their cameras connected to their own server, not another brand's cloud storage.
@martinbarrett_533327547867360 The ethernet cable on the E1 Outdoor is for data only, faster connection to your router than wifi, it's not POE power over ethernet. The low voltage cable powers the camera. I wish Reolink made the E1 Outdoor POE.
@reolink-fiona Thanks much! I'll download it and install.
I have a 823A. I think I have the newest 823A firmware, v3.10.956.....It's been out since April I believe. While it does a good job tracking humans walking, it often can't keep up when cars drive by much of the time. My street is about 60' from the camera with left/right, right/left view, no curves or road coming toward the cam. There's a kid in the neigbhorhood that drives a golf cart on the street. My 823A can't follow it. When the mailtruck stops by my mailbox, sometimes the 823A won't follow it. A few months ago I sent Reolink support several videos of the cam not reacting fast enough to follow cars. In the specs Reolink should specify the 823A can't folIow vehicles if they are passing by more than 10mph or so. I decided to turn off the vehicle tracking. I'm hoping there will be a newer firmware that improves this. For those with long driveways or when the street is further from the house, the 823A likely does a better job tracking vehicles.I contacted two other brands that sell PTZ cams. They said their's cannot track vehicles as close range faster than about 8-10mph either. I'm not here to bash Reolink. I really like my Reolink cams. I recommend them. I like my 823A. I think it's the best PTZ cam in it's price range. I wonder if the new Trackmix and new 823A 16x zoom will be better at following cars?
@nivek-retsel_503740308148405 Reolinkers have been asking for a doorbell camera for years. Finally one is coming. Months ago numerous Reolinkers posted want lists for doorbell camera features, including head to toe field of view. Reolink does listen and respond to feedback. It will be disappointing if Reolink doorbell does not have head to toe view. Maybe to keep price point down they settled for less view. I'm a big Reolink fan, own 12 Reolink cameras. I want to be able to see packages with a doorbell cam.
Looks good! I want the doorbell cam and the 823A 16x.
Whatever features it has, some will likely complain. Does it have X-ray vision like Superman? Can it read license plates from six blocks away? Can it zoom in and count the fleas on a dog walking by? Can it examine fingerprints when someone rings the bell? Will it work with every brand app on the planet? Will it lock/unlock every door in the house? LOL.
Horray! Lots of people waiting/wanting this.
Check out the Announcements, the doorbell is open for trials!! They want 40 and over 900 have already applied.
@boci-levu, kpb, While it would be nice if all brands were compatible with each other, many of them use proprietary firmware and cannnot be mixed together. It's Ring, not Reolink that controls this. Ring is firmly holding on to their system and their paid monthly subscriptions. I doubt they or some other companies will allow their cams to be used with competing brands. Some cams that use ONVIF and RTSP can be hooked up to other firmware like Blue Iris, etc. and other NVR systems. Some Reolink cams can do this. I've heard of Doorbird. I don't know much about them except they are really expensive, no thanks. There must be at least 15 or more companies that sell doorbell cams. I'm glad Reolink is making one. I heard it will be released in the the third or fourth quarter this year. With Covid and supply chain issues...patience.
@reolink-fiona Hi, I don't know how to use community chat. I sent several video clips to Reolink Support. Reolink customer service is great. Thanks for working hard to improve your great products. Regards....
My 823A now returns to guard point. Thanks much for fixing this. The cam can follow people walking by on my sidewalk. It does a good job following them. But when I walk toward the cam and go underneath it at a normal walking pace the cam cannot follow me. It responds too slowly. I must walk very slow for the cam to follow me when I walk close and underneath it. A burglar obviously would not walk so slow. Also, it cannot follow cars driving by faster than about 15mph. Cars just drive by and go out of field of view. I don't expect the 823A to follow fast cars, they are not a security concern for me once they've gone way past my house. At night with vehicle auto tracking on it sometimes sees a parked car and detects it as moving but it's not. It records a false alert. The parked car may be reflecting the IR light and the cam thinks it's moving? Some weeks ago I sent Reolink support videos of all this. It's a great cam for the price even with it's limitations and I'm sure Reolink will improve the firmware. Those who want a PTZ should buy it. I saw on the news China is having a surge in Covid cases. Stay safe Reolink staff.
@reolink-fiona I've been using the new firmware for the 823A for about ten hours. The vertical tracking is some better. The camera can follow me walking close to it and underneath it as I walk from the sidewalk around the garage corner to the front door. BUT I have to walk very slow. It cannot follow me walking normally. The BAD, I can't get the Return to Guard Point to work. I check the Return to Guard Point, set a time, 10, 20 30 second, push reset guard point and confirm. But after auto tracking the camera stays to far left or right, it won't return to the center. I wonder if the cam sees the parked cars to left/right and it fixates on them wrongly thinking they are in motion. I also wonder if others have this problem. I reset and rebooted the cam but that didn't help. I may go back to the older firmware version or just shut off auto tracking. I think Reolink will fix this eventually. Also when auto tracking if vehicles drive past my house at say about 15mph or higher the 823A sometimes can't keep up, it just looses the car going by. It's responsiveness is rather slow, but I don't expect it to do much better at fast vehicle speeds. I don't think most PTZ cams can follow very fast. It follows people walking on my sidewalk okay. I like this cam and it will be nice when the bugs are worked out.
@reolink-fiona Thank you. I will try the updated firmware on the 823A.
Which POE cams have a siren? Some don't show it in the specs.
@ourhalfdzn_493664171921643, It's good you are researching cam systems before buying. Some buy then get frustrated because they don't know how to run them or have they have too high expectations on how they perform. In my opinion Reolink is a great brand in their price range. I've used them for a couple years. There are YouTube videos you can watch about how to set them up and how the apps work. On YouTube type in "Reolink NVR set up, review" etc. Also use the Reolink support pages. Camera systems can be very basic, easy to use, or indepth rather complicated settings. There is a learning curve how to connect them to your router, controlling cam features, etc. but once you get the hang of it it's fairly routine. Some use NVR system, others just use phone app and record to the SD cards in the cams. Two YouTube channels I like are LifeHackster and The Hook Up who have videos about Reolink cams, there are others including Reolink's own YouTube channel.
